-have kids
-be as good of a mom as my mom
-learn how to waltz or something useless like that

design quote

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

“Great design is like the bill of rights. We get so used to having it around, we don’t even think about it anymore. And as much as we might complain about what we don’t like, much of New York is fantastically thought-out. Street signs, dinner china, perfume bottles, sofa fabrics; we forget that, at some point, someone put serious effort into making the mundane beautiful.” david colman, new york magazine

i love pennyslvania. it’s just a great place. you can live reasonably, the people are a little interesting, but very nice, and you’re close to major cities. its also beautiful in the fall. I went home to see momsie/dadsie, jenna john and maggie this weekend. it was a lot of fun, and so easy and comfortable to be home.

I put up a bunch of photos (including some from this weekend) on my picassa album. there are even some from photo 301. those a good and funny to look at.

first wave of logos

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Here are some logos i’ve played around with at work. hopefully they don’t show up with a black background like they look like they’re going to. They all have white backgrounds. We’ve got just fun bars with white ‘snaps’ and then we’ve got something very symbolic…the icon of a camera on a red background. it could be any color wanted. and then also, we have some shutters beginning to close. those can be any color also – i just never design with hot pink – so i thought i would for fun…

many more to come. comments welcome.

Mariel is going to put up an etsy site for her photography and i’m going to design the logo for the site. i’m so excited. I started brainstorming with her today…just words/concepts:

-lens
-light
-close of shutter
-camera glares
-circles of confusion
-crouching photographer
-photo print
-circle
-twiggy eye
-grass (from her shot)
-crosshairs
-photo brackets/corners
-picture frame
-easl/easel (no clue how to spell that) of a picture frame.

Work wise, I have a photo shoot tomorrow for work – it should last about 5 hours, with a somewhat difficult photographer. oh boy…

anthony bourdain

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Big fan of Anthony Bourdain’s show No Reservations and also of his writing. He’s smart, funny, pompous, and arrogant – and for the most part, right about everything. Tonight I went out and got my third book written by him, A Cook’s Tour. I’ve also read The Nasty Bits, and Kitchen Confidential. I couldn’t put them down. After I finish Cook’s, I’m going to move onto his fiction, Bone in the Throat and Typhoid Mary.

american gangster

REALLY excited about Denzel’s new movie, American Gangster. They put together a great trailor, and also the soundtrack is by Jay-Z. He is my favorite, and that song they have playing through the trailer, Ain’t No Love (In the Heart of the City) is great. Also, love the type treatment…
